Firefox works, but IE doesnt, on my wireless connection.

Im really confused with why certain browsers and programmes work with my wireless connection, but others do not.
Before September, before I went to college, I used msn messenger, internet explorer and firefox all ok using the wireless connection we have at home.

Since going to college (I had these problems at the christmas holidays too), and have just had the same problems now- i connect to my wireless connection fine, firefox will open (what I am using now, so the internet connection is working fine), but Internet Explorer or MSN Messenger both say there are problems and cannot open- well IE says page cannot be displayed.

Anyone know why this might be happening? Oh, and I dont want to mess with the connection too much just in case I go back to college and it won’t function there…..(at college it is a wired connection by the way).
ANy help appreciated, cheers.
