    Firewire Issues MacPro Desktop

I was curious if anyone is having sporatic connectivity problems with their MacPro firewire?

I have noticed the front 400/800 connectors will fail to connect with my video camera 60 percent of the time, while the rear 400/800 has no problems and will always connect. This problem only affects my camera.

Obviously I use the rears, but it would be nice to be able to use them all after paying over $8,000.00 for this system.

Apples website doesn’t show this to be a problem. I purchased this in December 2007.

    MacPro Quad Xeon 3.0
    16 GB Ram
    4-750 GB Drives
    ATI X1900 256 Video Card
    Twin 30″ Monitors
10.4 Tiger OS (Leopard doesn’t like Adobe)

Installed applications are Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Master Collection, VMWare, and numerous apps for WinXP on VMWare’s external drive.

The front usb ports on your Mac are not direct powered.

They are powered by a cable running from the motherboard, it is the same with normal ps’s. The only true power for your camera is on the rear of your computer. Your camera needs to pull the extra few watts more than the front usb ports. That is an expensive bit of kit, is it 8 core by any chance?
      Hope this helps you.
