Folder properties

By Naamor ·
I am running Windows 2K and log in as administrator. All of a sudden I am no longer able to access folder properties. I can click on properties, (it is not greyed out) but nothing happens, not even an error message. I just recently installed the OS and know for sure that I have not changed access rights on the account or any of the folders.

Does anyone know what might have caused this and how to fix it?

Just some things to ponder/look at.

Did you look in event viewer to see if there was anything being logged there?

Check both the security and sytem logs. Look for any stop errors or warnings.

next.... Just so I get this straight...

You installed 2k FRESH (no upgrade) and as soon as the install is done, you checked the folder properties and nothing happens.

Just out of curiousity, when you installed the os did you format using FAT or NTFS. If FAT you will not see the security tab.

Next, what else did you install on the OS.

Did you follow the rule of thumb; OS then Service pack (2), then drivers (video, sound), then apps? 2K is pretty stable.

Is this in a domain setting/ does it belong to the domain? Which adminaccount did you log in with, local or domain.

Make sure that you accidentaly did'nt log in with "administrator" thinking you were logging on locally, but really logging into the domain, and the "administrator" username was renamed to a guest account.
