By jimschelling ·
Desktop folders do not retain the view settings even tho the 'remember each folder's view settings' is checked. (XP Pro)

Folder View settings in Explorer

This used to bug me to no end.

What you need to do, is close explorer using the File menu instead of the 'X'

XP does not always save user settings for programs if you close them using the 'X'

This seemed to help temporarily, but the problem persists. Another suggestion was to do a 'shift close', but neither of these things are a permenant fix. There must be something slighty 'broke' in my installation of XPpro.

Try CTRL + 'close' (by clicking the X !) for each folder once you set all options to your liking.
(shift+X doesnt work in XP as far as i know .. )
