TR members do not assist in password recovery or removal.

by ThumbsUp2 In reply to forgotten password to ...

Do not respond to this thread.

We, the members of TechRepublic - A Resource for IT Professionals, will not assist anyone in the recovery/removal of lost passwords. You may have a legitimate reason to recover/remove a password. However, we cannot verify your motives and will therefore not assist anyone in what may be an attempt at gaining unauthorized access to a computer system. Due to the open nature of this forum, any assistance given to help circumvent security measures, even for legitimate purposes, would be available for unscrupulous individuals to use for illegitimate purposes. This is a risk that we, the members of TechRepublic, will not take. Please do not ask questions of this nature on TechRepublic.

If you have a legitimate need to circumvent a password scheme, please contact the vendor for the software / hardware and request their assistance. E.g. Windows XP password recovery/removal issues should be taken up with Microsoft's technical support, Phoenix BIOS password recovery/removal issues should be taken up with Phoenix Technologies, hard drive password recovery/removal should be taken up with the manufacturer of the hard drive, etc...

For years you must down load ether a boot floppy or boot cd that has the format command it and boot to it and type format c -u and wait for it to tell you it is done. Then reboot and your problem is fixed.

The BIOS Password is the one you need to worry about

by OH Smeg In reply to forgotten password to ...

But it is easy to bypass all you need is a Piece of Electrical Test Gear called a Mega. You connect the Mega to the Earth and Active Pins of the 3 Pin Plug and run the test. The Electrical Current generated will wipe the Password from th AC Adapter and then you need to repeat the process but this time you need a plug for the Mains Adapter to the NB. You need to solder 2 pieces of wire to this plug and then connect the Mega to these wires and run the test again. Again the electrical Current Generated will cause the BIOS Password to be erased and you will be able to start the computer without getting any requests for you to enter the BIOS Password.

I saw a guy doing Electrical Safety Inspections here test the Insulation on a Desktop PC with a Mega.

Passed the test with flying colors but then I had to repair it because it no longer worked. :^0

Never quite understood the need to put a Mega on Double Insulated Electronic Equipment but it will wipe the BIOS Password.

... We don't offer password assistance. I'm sure you can understand our reasoning even if your request is legit, we have no way of verifying that.
