Format Page Numbering in Word Footer

By Shanghai Sam ·
In an eight page document in Word, my assistant created a footer and formatted the page number to look like 1 of 8, 2 of 8 etc. All is well until we close and re-open the document. Then it says 1 of 1, 2 of 1, 3 of 1, etc. 3 or 4 seasoned Word users have not been able to solve this. Is there some kind of formatting that we need to look for to overcome this? A code or something?

Format Page Numbering in Word Footer

This is an old problem. There are a couple of odd solutions.
1, try turning off background printing,
2, go to Print Preview 3 times,
3, print last page first.
This has been around along time, but I tink was finally fixed in 2002

I dont know of any tricks to fix this however i just right click the footer and update the field code each time i open a document.
In the end i recorded a macro to do this and stored it in normal.dot to make it available each time i open MS Word.
Good Luck!!

Format Page Numbering in Word Footer

This problem occurs with Word 2000 when the SectionPages or NumPages field is placed inside the header or footer.

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).
