Forward mail to non Exchange 2k mailbox

I am trying to forward email for our support email address to a new ticket tracking server. We have been unsuccessful in doing so because Exchange will not allow forwarding to an account not in Active Directory. Any help appreciated.

That is correct. Exchange will only allow you to auto-forward email to addresses that exist in the GAL.

Go to AD Users and Computers and create a new Contact in the Users folder. After you have created the Contact, right-click the Contact in the Users list and choose Exchange Tasks. Choose "Establish email addresses" and follow the prompts for creating the necessary email address of your specialty server (make sure you create the proper type of address - i.e. SMTP, x400, etc.).

The contact will now show up in the GAL and allow you to auto-forward to that contact.
