Forwarding E-mail to an external account

By sadamsvalley ·
I am new to Exchange 2000 and need help with an issue that may be small. We have a local AD account with an Exchange mailbox that represents four users on another E-mail system altogether. What I would like to do is set up a forwarding address so e-mail sent to this address would be sent via smtp to the four external e-mail addresses. Being an old groupwise admin i want to set up the equivalent of 4 external entities and put them on a distribution list. Have no idea where to start... any help????

Forwarding E-mail to an external account

In AD Users and Computers for your domain, right click on the Users container and click New/Contact. This allows you to set up a contact name with an email address without setting up a domain user account for that address. Then, also in AD Users and Computers, right click on the Users container and click New/Group. In the New Group dialog box, give the group a name, make it global (default), and select Distribution for the group type. In the properties of the Group, on the Members tab, add the contacts that you just created. NOTE that when you go to add the contacts to the group, because they are contacts and not users, you may have to edit the value in the "Select this object type:" box to add Contacts so that you can add them to the group. To do this, in the Select users. . . dialog box, click the Object types button and put a checkmark next to Contacts. Hope this helps!

One thing that was not in the answer, that I did find out is that the external e-mail should be highlighted as the default address in AD and that an exchange mailbox should be created for them. It will route the message from there.
