What specific tools are you looking for? Is there a budget in mind? Can you design your own database through a retail program (Microsoft Access for example)?

As I posted, I am looking for a free open source software.
No problem with the databases.

I did a little research and can’t find a good definition of what this system must have.

What this means is that you can’t ask for what you have in your title because the definition of what such a system is all over the map. Some are simple name, address and phone number databases and then it escalates from there.

Again, I doubt anyone can guess what features you want so what I found is not one matched what is sold feature wise. If you were hoping to find free open source to rival the pay solutions, the answer is there are none.

Take a look at Open Source and/or Free CRMs. Customer Relationship Managers appear to be close to what you might want. Lots of choices out there.
