From Pop to Imap

By rouse ·
I've got to change my inhouse mail access from pop(currently working fine) to imap. I use sendmail, fetchmail to pop mail from my isp, & have now enabled imapd in my xinetd.d. The clients are outlook97. What needs to happen in outlook97 to get thisto work? I have internet E-mail, outlook address book & personal folders running as services in outlook. Pls let me know if you need other info.
Thanks in advance - Keith

Outlook 97 does not provide support for configuring imap mail services. You need to use Outlook Express instead. I believe the services you listed are available in Outlook Express as well, the things not supported being the services an Exchange server would provide like calandar and public folders. Outlook express comes as part of Internet Explorer, so if you have a recent version (or update if not,) you have Outlook Express. You'll find the config options for imap in the Tools--Accounts--Mail tab. Select Add and you'll have the option for imap as well as pop3.

Thanks n9oec. A lot of my research indicated that ol97 would work with imap - so I was getting a bit frustrated. I'm a little shy of the express, so I downloaded Pegasus Mail and that works ok. Only thing now is how to make it show only the mailbox.Looks like internet explorer right now - shows all folders under the user's directory.
