FSB speed

By Shadow_43701 ·
I have an athlonxp 1800+ that runs at 333mhz fsb with 2 256 pc2700 ddr ram chips in it. My problem is that I don't know if the system really is running at the 333 mhz speed. The Bios says that the cpu clock is 133 mhz. Is that the corrrect setting?

Does not sound right

by TheChas In reply to FSB speed

You are correct in your thinking that 133MHz does not sound 'right' for a 333MHz FSB.
133MHz can be correct for a 266MHz FSB CPU.
166MHz would be my expectation for a 333MHz FSB.

The question here is what motherboard?

Every Socket A motherboard that I have used has a different method of setting the bus and multiplier values.
If the motherboard uses a combination of FSB and the PCI clock to set the CPU FSB, then you may be okay.

Does the motherboard support a 333MHz FSB?
Do you need faster RAM for a 333MHz FSB?
Do you actually have the 333MHz FSB Athlon or is it a 266MHz FSB chip?
(You will need to either verify the part number on the CPU, or run a CPU ID utility.)
