About your last question “Partitioning a (preloaded) XP system”:
You missunderstand that you can use any original CD with WindowsXP, but you will use your serial number to finish the installation.
You will not have any problem with the Activation key.
If you don’t have Internet access, before reinstall the system, you can copy from C:\windows\system32\ the “wpa.dbl” file to a diskette or other location. After you finish the installation, boot in safe mode and replace the “wpa.dbl” with the saved file.
