Getting Filetype apart from using File E

By jamlove ·
Is there any way i can get the Type of the File by passing just the fullname.
For example,if i say "MYdoc.Doc" ,it should get the result by looking at the content and say "Microsoft Word'97".
I am interested to know, is there any component or API available in market to achieve the above.

Although I have,nt programmed this specific thing. But you should be able to use Win32 API for registry manipulation to do this. You can program in VC++ or VB for this.

Everything you want to know about file associations can be found in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT section of the Registry. You can read/write this information using the System Registry functions in many languages including C, C++ and VB.

Good Luck
