global address list

By Shanghai Sam ·
What would be the easiest way to make the global address list available to a remote user that uses outlook configured for pop3 to get his e-mail from an Exchange 5.5 server. it doesn't need to be kept updated, I just need to get the names and addresses over to it quick.

Thanks
Eric

Simpler than you think! Set up a VPN tunnel or remote connection for the user. This can be either dialup or Broadband. Then set permissions on the server for them to access the Global Address List.

Why not use LDAP? the server already has the capabilities, all you need to do is ensure that the LDAP protocol is enabled. Then provide the POP3 user with the IP address of the server and configure the client for LDAP queries.

Depending on whichclient you can set the Exchange LDAP as primary for all name resolution. And if its a name the user wishes to keep he/she can add it to their personal address book.

You should create a public contact folder and import the GAL to that contact folder. User can use this to send emails to anyone in the GAL.
