So..Gmail is down..

Does anyone use Gmail for business purposes?

If not, would you consider using them?

Its frustrating when its down when using on a personal basis, but if its your sole business email, any down time is not good.

It's in "beta"

so they don't have to guarantee any QoS

Not any more.

It came out of beta a couple of months ago. The 'release' version isn't any different, but they finally realized that keeping it in beta so long perpetuated the perception that they didn't have to guarantee any QoS!

GMail interface

by boxfiddler Moderator In reply to GMail

drives me up a wall. We use it at The Center, but I have Outlook configured to pull my mail from it. I use the web interface from home, to check for troubles on the days I'm not there.
Otherwise, woof. They can keep Gmail. Blech.

Does it go down often for you?

Well suposedly

by Shellbot In reply to GMail interface

its down worldwide.

Was giving me troubles over the weekend..same type of problem..server error.

I'm not a huge fan of the interface myself, but I do like thier spam filtering, so its a trade off for me.

No use for it.

by CharlieSpencer In reply to GMail

At home, I'm happy with the e-mail accounts provided by my ISP and my web host. At work we have our own Exchange server. I have a Windows Live account I was required to set up in order to access some forgotten MS resource, but I couldn't tell you what it is.

I wouldn't consider using any web-based e-mail service for any business other than a small single proprietor, one who doesn't have the traffic, staff, or money to justify / support an in-house solution.

I know some companies that use it

by Shellbot In reply to No use for it.

however, I don't have any contacts in those places, so I don't know what their opinion of it for business use.

I guess if I was running a small company, with only a couple staff, I'd consider it for cost reasons.

At home I dn't use my ISP accounts..been about 5 years since I bothered with those.
