Good News on my health.

ok, definition first:
fev1 = Forced Expressed Volume ( of air ) in 1 second.

July 2nd my spirometry results: fev1 31/38 pre medication / post medication
TODAY [ just before seeing respirologist ] my fev1 48/68 [ pre/post meds ]
that is a 17% improvement in airflow baseline and a 30% improvement with medications in last 7 months.:)

still legally handicapped though, the fev1 is below 50 without my meds.

Hey Jaqui!

by wizard57m-cnet Moderator In reply to Good News on my health.

That's a pretty good improvement, so the meds must be working pretty well. Good to hear from you, keep getting better and following your current treatment guidelines and you'll be at 50!

at 50?

by Jaqui In reply to Hey Jaqui!

when my first fev1 was 29, with only "partial reversibility" in my emphysema, I suspect that I hit the best I'll ever have with 48.

and that took a few years to get.

but, I have a perfect record in something else with my copd, 0 hospitalizations. the average is 1.5 times in a hospital because of copd every year.

so 0 over 4 years is an incredibly good record.

dang

by Jaqui In reply to Hey Jaqui!

still can't edit my posts.

was gonna add:
2 puff 4 times/day both Ventolin and Atrovent
2 puffs twice daily Symbicort 200/6
1 daily Spiriva [ only dose it comes in 18 micrograms once a day ]
I fight my doc on changing that, cause it works for me.
she keeps trying to get me to go 1 puff twice daily on the symbicort.

I figure

since I get frustrated with the design of the rich media based site scripts, not finding anything easy about using them, I'll just stay away most of the time.

but good news like this needs to be shared. :)

That's good to hear

by NickNielsen In reply to Good News on my health.

Hope things keep improving for you.

We're dealing with similar issues because of my wife's asthma. Unfortunately, because of other health problems, all we're able to do is hold the line.

ouch

by Jaqui In reply to That's good to hear

a severe enough case of asthma is also a diagnoses of COPD.
My own issue is severe chronic bronchitis, severe emphysema, and a fairly severe case of asthma, that I didn't get until an adult and is hard to control. The huge difference my medications make for me is actually because of the asthma.

Sorry but at that time in February

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Good News on my health.

Mum had just died 8 days previously so I had a little on my plate to deal with after looking after her for the last 6 months.

Good to hear that things are improving even if only slightly.

Wish I could do more than send e-hugs to you both. I'm glad to hear you are doing better, Jaqui.
