I have a windows 2000 server environment with XP professional clients. How can I lock down xp clients from installing software from the Internet and changing the background on the desktops? and how can I give a client permission on a XP machine to install software with it asking for you have to be an Administrator to install the software? Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks!

Providing you have an AD environment, you can use a GPO to assign the software to a machine. You can also use a GPO to lock down the desktop. If you do not have an AD domain, you can use a login script to install the software, and you can also use the local group policy (gpedit.msc from the run box) to control desktop features.
