Group Policies + Management Not Working

By simonjkidd ·
I've installed Win2K server and AD, then added the PCs ( a win2k pro and Nt PC ) to the domain. Computer appears, but no group policy settings take effect ( NT works through NT config ) and when we try to connect to manage the computer we get " Can't connect to \\computername cannot be managed path not found"

Any ideas ?

Group Policies + Management Not Working

According to Microsoft, this problem is caused by file and print sharing not being enabled on the remote computer (Q262597).

Resolution:

On the computer that you want to manage remotely, right-click My Network Places, and then click Properties.

Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.

Click to select the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks check box.

Click OK.

Hope this helps.

What are you using as the computer name? Make sure that there are no invalid characters in the computer name and you should be able to do this when the computer is online.

Are you sure that the user(s) at the other end has not disabled remote management?
