Group Policy disable applications

By ken.clarke ·
Hi,
I'm using GP to diable certain applications from running, however one inparticular "AIM" changes its filename depending on the version eg. currently it is "aim6.exe" is there a way to do something like "aim*" in GP?

Why not just block the traffic at the firewall?

Because apps like skype use port 80 and other similar ports used for internet traffic, if we did that we might have some other problems ;o)

Wildcard in GPO

Use a wildcard on the path i.e.

C:\Program Fiels\Ares\*.exe

This will also stop users from renamong the executable but it wont stop them from changing the installation path if they choose a custom install.
