Groupwise won’t send MS Office documents

This is weird. A friend of mine has a Groupwise 5.5 email server that will not send MS Office files. I know nothing about Novell Groupwise stuff, so I thought I’d pass on the puzzle. Check it out if you have a minute!

He can’t send any doc, xls, or ppt files through the server. Note that the filename is irrelevant. i.e., if you rename worddocument.doc to worddocument.jpg, it still will not go through.

Any other files (eg. zip files, jpg )will go through regardless of name. i.e., ifyou rename picture.jpg to picture.doc, it goes through fine. If you zip worddocument.doc into worddoczipped.zip, it goes just fine, too!

The previous email server (not sure what brand) did not have this problem.

It appears as though the server is actually scanning the content of the file & blocking MS Office files. Any thoughts at all?

When GroupWise Client is installed on the machine, you need to select office integration from the setup menu. This will list any compatible Office software ie. Word, Excel and install a plugin into the program so you can send from the file menu.When you say that files are not being sent, I assume you mean selecting a file in Win Explorer and choosing send to, or are you opening GW and Attaching the docs?

Try reinstalling Office THEN GroupWise. GW will recognize MSOffice and set up integration.
Also, make sure the latest service packs and patches are in place.

The problem occurs when opening the GroupWise client and attaching documents.

The office integration caused problems with office 2k dlls so we do not install these options.
