Hang at Logon – Win98SE Family Logon

About 30% of the time my system hangs completely after initial booting with the password box greyed out. One or two hard reboots always clears the problem but I cannot find any pattern or link to historic events that could cause this behaviour.

The system is Win98SE with Family logon on a small network and the mobo is a KT7-RAID.
