Hard Disk File System Error!!!

By bullitch ·
I don't think if the title of my thread is good enough. My problem started when i installed a flavor of Linux called Linspire. I installed the Linspire operating system in my hard disk but i didn't notice what kind of file system i used. When i installed Windows XP i can't convert it anymore into a fat or ntfs files sytem but the conversion starts and end up on 10%. I tried to install the hard drive in a motherboard with higher upgrades or technology but still the hard drive can't be converted into fat/ntfs >>> in short my 40gig hard disk is not working and it's been in my closet for four months. guys give me an advice.

If you can lose all the data on the hard disk:

Use the Windows XP CD and delete the partitions that are currently existing on the disk as listed in the linked Microsoft support article:

Always install Windows first, then Linux

by stress junkie In reply to Hard Disk File System Err ...

Any computer that is going to have Microsoft Windows and any Linux should have Windows installed first, then install Linux. That's because Microsoft doesn't need or want to share your computer with a competing system. Linux, on the other hand, is designed so that you can test it without harming your "regular" operating system. People are more likely to try Linux if they know that their Windows will still work.
