Hard Disk Needs Formatting: Is Data Retrieval Possible Before Formating?

By reachoppy ·
Tags: Microsoft
My laptop has refused to boot and internal recovery couldnt be done. The Recovery discs i created when i got the laptop was employed but the laptop couldnt read from the disc. The Hard disc was removed and attached to an adaptor and connected to another laptop via usb. The laptop read the hard drive, revealing 3 partitions or so: System(f), Hard disc(g) and Recovery(h). The partitions opened except Hard Disc(g). Think the system attempted opening it and eventually said something like 'the disc needs to be formatted'. Please, i dont want to loose my data, what can i do to retrieve my data? My laptop is a windows 7 system. Thanks all.

Hard Disk needs Formatting

Yes you can retrive your data though its a bit tricky. You might need some help on this. Remove your hard drive from the laptop and connect it to another computer as an external hard disk. Windows is most likely to see it and you can then copy your data. When done, take the hard disk to your original laptop, put it back in the machine and you are ready to format.

Make sure you recover data first before formatting. You can google for data recovery software, there are lots of them.

It is possible to recover lost data

by Kendy519 In reply to Hard Disk Needs Formattin ...

If your computer can't boot, recovery software can't work, you may be able to unplug the hard drive from your laptop, and connect it to another computer with an adapter as an external hard drive. In fact, you can try to recover data with data recovery software such as Tenorshare Data Recovery Pro after reinstalling OS.

Yes, but you need to be careful.... read on to see how to recover deleted files most successfully...
You can often successfully recover deleted files from a PC, camera memory card or USB Memory stick, it just depends on what’s happened since the files were deleted.

You could boot to a LIVE linux CD/DVD you will see all the partitions. You can then save what you need to the cloud or another drive. The windows system you were reading the drive on was seeing your Drive as encrypted and pass worded.
