Hard Drive Cylinders and Partitions...

By matthew.tinney ·
I have tried to install linux on my system but to my surprise I cannot. I found out that I have over 30 seperate partitions and I now need to get that software that destroys all partitions and puts the sectors, tracks and cyclinders back the way thedrive came initially. Can anyone tell me what and how to do this. THank you.

Hard Drive Formatting

If your drive is a Western Digital you will have to use the software disk that came with it. go into the diagnostics section and then you will have to zero the drive. This process
will totally wipe the drive clean. Maxtor drives have an application that's similar in some respects to WD's. Running Fdisk might help but Partition Magic would be better. Use it to delete the partitions first, let the process run and then go back and create your partitions.

Excess Partitions

Partion Magic has a feature which lets you merge partitions, in case you don't want to delete any.
