While trying to clean up a users machine prior to installing a program I ran RegClean and found that it would lock up and produce an “illegal operation” message just as it was almost done. After clicking on the “Fix Errors” button, RegClean would gothrough its gyrations and get 95-or-so complete on the last run and would lock up. As an alternate I installed and attempted to run EasyCleaner and found that the initial “Language Selection” box displayed no languages availabe which, basically, meant it could not be run either. Also, I would run RegVac and still have no success in clearing this error. The “illegal operation” message referred to “advapi32.dll.” User is running Win95 w/64k and P120. After much frustration with this issue I decided to reinstall Win95 but run into problems at the point that “setup” tries to detect and/or install hardware. A “Detection Error” message box pops up, telling me that “Detection returned the following error: Registry access failed.” And at that point “setup” stops. The culprit looks to be either the sound card or the CD-ROM. The CD-ROM works fine so I suspect the sound card. Any thoughts here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
