Has anyone managed to successfully install Inksaver on Windows 7?

By wyndham ·
I have not been able to successfully install Inksaver on Windows 7.

Near the end of installation the following message comes up: "RegDBGetKeyValueEx failed" followed by details of the key.

I have not been able to get through to the vendor/supplier as they do not publish any contact information.

They do acknowledge this error on their support pages where they claim the problem lies with the InstallShield version, but unfortunately the link they provide doesn't work.

Any ideas?

InkSaver problem - more info

by wyndham In reply to Has anyone managed to suc ...

btw I have tried installing in compatibility mode, getting the same results.

I have also seen other forum posts, elsewhere, indicating the same problem.

For anyone not familiar with InkSaver, it is a software program that reduces the amount of ink a printer uses while retaining print quality, thereby saving quite a lot of money on ink. This is why I am so keen to get it installed and working.....

It depends on your printer...

What kind of printer are you using it for?
I have installed the software that you have and i have to install my printer software first before it can install correctly, so you might need to delete it (InkSaver) first then re-boot and then install your printer software (re-boot) then install InkSaver and then choose your printer model from the list in Inksavers list box.

Hope this is of any help.

Selection of printer not a problem

by wyndham In reply to It depends on your printe ...

Thank you for your suggestion. My printer is installed ok and appeared in the InkSaver list and was successfully added. I didn't believe this is the problem.

According to their website, the problem is because of the version of InstallShield..... I suspect it is more to do with the fact I am running Windows 7 64bit.

Any thoughts?

I was going to say try "compatibility mode"......

by Peconet Tietokoneet In reply to Selection of printer not ...

But you already had, so i have no further suggestions at the moment. I used to have this feature (InkSaver) with my canon printer but now if i want the same output that this software does i just print documents in draft mode. So that is one way around it. And no i do not have Inksaver installed on this system, i was just doing a test for your problem of which you still have. Uninstall it and re-install it is the only other way but going from your post it seems you have done this also.
Sorry i can not help you more on your problem.

Just to add:
Try this out, it is supposed to do the same as InkSaver and it is on free trial to use.

Thanks for the suggestion about Preton Saver, but the software only runs on 32bit according to their web site!

I guess I'll just have to wait for InkSaver to come out with a new version.

Considering Preton

by wyndham In reply to Pretonsaver home has a 64 ...

When I looked at the Preton website they stated that their software only works on 32-bit. I emailed them and they acknowledged the website is out of date (was...) and that Preton does work on 64bit.

Thanks for your recommendation, however, I am concerned at the cost as the website (perhaps wrongly) seems to indicate the license is for one year only.

Maybe I'll just wait for the Inksaver update.

Update from vendor of Inksaver

by wyndham In reply to Has anyone managed to suc ...

Update received today from the vendor:

"Unfortunately InkSaver is not compatible with either Windows 7 or 64 versions of XP/Vista . We hope to release new version later this year to support these operating systems, so please keep an eye on our website"

In the mean time, you have other options to choose from.. NT
