Have COA, but need correct disk. Question is: what build do I need?

The enterprise I work for is donating one of our Dell systems to a non-profit. We have many disks around, but they all have the volume license built into them. We want to use the COA that is on the system, and have tools to change the code embedded in Windows, but it keeps rejecting it, saying it is not valid.

Is there a way to find what build of Win XP I need to get this project finished up? I have tried to use a standard XP disk, but that failed as well, stating that the code was not valid.

I have contacted Dell, but the system is out of warranty and they are totally rejecting me unless I want to pay. Understandable from the business aspect, but we are giving away a $500 system, and do not want to spend more money on this.

I am open to any suggestions. Thanks!
