Have you migrated from NT to Windows 2003 Server?

By Toni Bowers ·
If so, would you be interested in critiquing a Windows NT to Windows Server 2003 project plan (a new TechRepublic product) and giving us your feedback?

Recently did the SBS Server upgrade

by techrepublic In reply to Have you migrated from NT ...

Went from BOS 4.5 (NT 4.0) to SBS 2003 (Windows 2003). I could relate my experiences from that if it would help and critique the plan.

by debraknapik In reply to Recently did the SBS Serv ...

Hi Scott,
I am going to be installing a new 2003 server from NT 4.0. I would love some tips or what I should look for.

Thanks so much,

project plan?

by jimmypi In reply to Have you migrated from NT ...

the project plan is really for you to look at your individual inviroment and come up with. But the simple way is this.

1. Pull your PDC offline
3. slap the windows 2003 server disk into the offline server
4. upgrade it selecting the upgrade to active directory also intern mode.
5. check out the server and make sure the accounts are ok.
6. slap that newly upgraded server back in the mix
7. let it run for a month or to as the new AD controller.
8. If all goes well for that month then upgrade your BDC if not then pull the new 2003 server offline and promote your BDC to a PDC

there are alot of good books on this that are easy to read. I suggest "Mastering Windows server 2003" by SYBEX you can find it at and Barnse and noble store.
