HD failure

By qcprincess ·
Has anyone had the experience of having two identical hard drives (one each in two separate servers) fail within hours of each other? Do you have any ideas what could have happened to the network to cause such a catastrophic failure?

Were you running Windows NT with automatic update?

Network ???

I guess there is the possibility that some virus or other code with bad intent caused the drive to fail, but I wouldn't bet any money on it.

We should define failure a little better, I am assuming that the drive could not be reformatted or otherwise put back into service.

We have had occasions where we have obtained multiple drives (same part/model number) with a single purchase order and noticed that they tend to fail in the same week.

Personally I like the Western Digital the best and the IBM the least. I believe that it has to do with the quality of the drive as opposed to some external cause.
