Heading styles in Word

By malosa ·
Hello! I'm using a pre-defined template in Word that has pre-define heading styles. However, they are not recognized as headings. How can I specify the style as a heading? I need it to be a heading so I can use the cross-reference function. BTW, this is office 2002.

You can't AFAIK, redefine a style as a heading. It's been a long time problem. Can you use bookmarks?

I could try bookmarks or I could modify the default Heading 1, Heading 2 - etc to fit the predefined style. :-(

For Office 2000:

Click Format -> Theme and select the template you want. Either using the drop-down menu or click Format -> Style, select the heading to use. The cross-reference function (Insert -> cross-reference) will work. For Reference type, select Heading and you'll see all text using heading styles.

This is the work around I've been using. I just wish there was a better way :-(
