Sometimes there are people writing drivers that are not in the redhat or other distribution, you can do a search on google or yahoo or whatever your fav search engine is for "modemname linux" and perhaps there is a driver out there you can install yourself.
Chances are that if it's an internal PCI PNP modem, it will not be on the list. Your best bet with Linux is to use an external modem. Sorry, but that seems to be one of the weaknesses of Linux.
I know it was working. I bought the entire system all set up, from Pogo Computers. While trying to customize VMWare 2.0, Windows 98b wrote all over the MBR, so I had to do a complete reinstall.
