Help: Laptop not firing up. Charger light goes off immediately when plugged

    Hi,

I have a Dell Lattitude 6430. Recently, I am facing problems firing it up. Last, it gave me a warning that the battery is low and the screen shut off putting it in hibernate mode. Ever since, I have been unable to power it on.
I looked around the internet and found a potential reason could be that the motherboard has shorted.
Hence, I tried doing some continuity checks around various components and every time I heard a buzz.
I need some help around, what could be the potential reasons for my laptop not firing up? If it’s a shorting issues any links to assist me better in debugging the board would be helpful.

Is something well covered with a search. Here I compare what the repair fees would be versus replacement.

The counter fee here starts at 150 plus parts so for about 225USD at https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Latitude-E6430-Notebook-Professional/dp/B01GI6EX4I you can get a working laptop then swap your HDD or SSD over and carry on.

-> There is NO SCHEMATIC for the board so only simple repairs have been possible such as new jacks and replacing RTC batteries.

What you wrote about also could be a bad charger, old battery or other.

For a laptop that’s 7 or 8 years old, I shouldn’t spend much money to repair or (most likely) replace the motherboard, assuming the motherboard is the cause, which isn’t sure.

First, check the power socket and make sure it is functioning properly. If it is, then try a different outlet. If that does not work, then check the power cord and make sure it is plugged in properly. If that doesn’t work, then try a different power cord. If that still doesn’t work, then check the battery and make sure it is properly connected. If all of these things have been tried and the laptop still won’t start, then it may need to be taken to a repair shop for further diagnosis.

Most likely, your battery has reached the end of its useful life and has stopped holding a charge. Sometimes, laptop batteries can stop working out of the blue. This can happen if there is a short circuit in the internal components of the battery.
