HELP!!! MY LAPTOP WONT BOOT!!!

By cvpaa2 ·
on stating my sony vaio laptop running on a windows xp home edition, i get the vaio display then the windows xp screen also comes on and thats where the problem begins. i no longer get the meter like thing that increases on the bottom of the page, the screen just stays black for a while then shows a blue screen and hangs permanently.Using the F8 botton brings up the required page but the up and down buttons dont respond so i cant select last good configuration.Occasionally however when i power on and off repeatedly it does come on going straight from the wndows xp screen skipping the meter thing and goin straight to the log on page. After entering my password and booting it displays a new hardwar installed message saying 'ACPI UNIPROCESSOR P.C' installed and asks me to reboot which if i do i may end up not being able to boot again for a long time except i'm lucky. PLEASE HELP.

Go into the bios..

Boot up your computer and press the "F1 or DEL" key or what ever key that relates to your "bios", you will see a blue screen (or black) with white text, down on the bottom you will see some helpful text such as "load default settings" or some thing similar click on this and reboot your computer you will be asked to "do you want to save and exit" (if not press the "F10" button) this will save the default settings, though if you normally boot from your DVD drive you will have to go into the "boot settings" to reset the boot options.

Please post back if you have more problems or questions.

i have used the F2 button to get to the bios but cant navigate in there as the up and down buttons are still not responding.i should also mention that when this problem started i did a system recovery with the recovery discs but still facing same problem.i also once got the error message 'STOP:OxooooooB4(Ox82A5F008,0x82A2E000,0x82A0B000,0x00050000)' any further suggestions!! thanks

That sounds like either your processor driver or motherboard chipset drivers might be corrupt.
I would suggest that you attempt a windows installation repair using the installation cd, then reinstall the necessary drivers from the internet, or from the utilities cd if you have one.
If you have a recovery cd only you might not get the option to repair the installation and in that case you will lose all your saved data.

Recovery Time again, but first

by IC-IT In reply to Thanks...

I would use a Boot cd (like UBCD) or slave the drive to another machine to run a thorough check on the drive itself (unless you can navigate enough in the BIOS to run the disk self check).
Then try the Recovery CDs again.
The STOP error indicates corrupt video drivers. They should have worked from the recovery. Having failed could indicate write errors, or writes to bad/failing sectors.

Ok try this..

On your laptop (or shall i say underneath) try and locate your Motherboard battery (if you are scared of dissembling your laptop then take it to a repairer) and remove it, replace it with a new one, have a look at the battery number stamped on it so that you can get the right replacement. You could try and make sure non of the keyboard buttons are stuck down, this can cause the issue that you have. Press each button a few times to make sure they are free. Hope all of this helps you. What make and model is your laptop?

Please post back if you have more problems or questions.

same problem

by ksteinert22 In reply to HELP!!! MY LAPTOP WONT BO ...

did you ever find any information on this? My sony vaio does the same thing. Its been broke for over a year now. I've read several posts like this one with the same problems. I am beginning to think that maybe it is a hardware problem that sony should be liable for.

Warranty.....

If it's been going on for over a year now, chances are your warranty has expired. You should have contacted Sony a long time ago.

Same Issue

by andresrgarcia In reply to Warranty.....

I have the same issue with a clients computer, computer will boot randomly if keyboard does not lock up and by pressing down above f8. No success in finding solution. all drivers updated, bios flashed, OS reinstalled, harddrive swapped, memory swapped, bios battery swapped, so probally is a defect on motherboard, will post again if solution is found.
