Help with Mail Merge in Word 2007

I would like to use an IF statement to insert information for a separate file into a mail merge. Currently I have (if (cash) = "Y" (include text "c:\\filename.doc\)) and yes I used the Ctrl F9 to create the brackets. I need some real help with this I know it can be done but my experience with IF statements is nil. Thanks for your help.
