Help with making archive for site

My company has thousands of
images/photos/illustrations that we want to get
organized and onto a database to have them made
available on our website. I need to know what the best
software is to do this. Is it something simple like using
MS Access and Dreamweaver MX, or is there some
larger programs for categorizing and everything too?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
