HELP WITH TABLES IN WORD XP!

    Locked

    by malosa ·

GRR! I have this .doc that is used as an electronic form and is all formated with a table. Since I didn’t create the document, I don’t know what methods were used. Every time I insert a row it shifts every two or three rows to the right. WHY? WHY? WHY? I’m so mad! Anywhoo, can anyone provide help or direct me to a good advanced table formatting resource? THANKS!

Why dont you copy everything from the Word .doc file and paste it into Excel? It will show you all the formatting, edit it as per your needs, save it into excel, or bring it back to word!!

      Check it out!

While this suggestion is good for the future, I used the Normal view in word and just resized. For the cells that were giving me trouble I deleted them and replaced them and used the merge and split cells option. It’s probably not the best solution, but it got me through for now. I will probably use the excel suggestion in the future.

Creating forms in Word can be an adventure.
An_IT_Guy had a good suggestion. Tables are simpler in Excel. After you cleaned it up, it could then be pasted back into Word.
Make sure that the Show/Hide is turned on, so you can see the formatting characters. Also turn the gridlines on from the Table menu.
Select various rows and see how they are formatted by going to Table>Table Properties.
      Also check Paragraph formatting.
