Help ! ZONE ALARM PRO damaged MSSQL7

By hypersoniq MCSE ·
I have Microsoft SQL 7 desktop edition installed on my Windows 98 PC. Recently I purchased ZONE ALARM PRO ,and ever since then, I cannot get SQL to start up. I tried removing ZONE ALARM, and then lost ALL connectivity, including internet via modem. ZA tech people won't help because their program is functioning properly. I am guessing that it put some sort of firewall or other blocking mechanism in the PC's ability to connect via Client For Microsoft Network's Protocol.
I just want SQL to work again, I also would like to get rid of that zone alarm and send it back (even uninstalling don't help, I had to re-install zone alarm just to ask this question!
ALL points awarded to the answer that gets my SQL to connect, so please be thorough in your answer, no partial credit, because a partial fix won't help.

notes
-- I already reinstalled the protocol, AND tried to re-install SQL (I did clean the registry of SQL references first)
-- NOT a SQL issue, I studied for my recently awarded MCDBA using SQL 7 (not 120 day eval, I bought the full version)
-- I need to know how to undo whatever it is that Zone Alarm Pro did to my system!!!

THANKS IN ADVANCE TO THE WINNER!

Help ! ZONE ALARM PRO damaged MSSQL7

MAJOR IMPORTANCE!!!
THIS MUST BE DONE WITHOUT WIPING THE HARD DRIVE AND RE_INSTALING EVERYTHING!!!
I have had Windows 98 on this PC SINCE it was released, and have only had to re-install everything due to a virus once, re-install is the "standard"answer for those without creativity.... If I must do it that way, (format/re-install-restore backups), then I answered my own question.... Please, I'm looking for a viable workaround to zone alarm and what it did to sql, NOT a re-do of my entire system.

Help ! ZONE ALARM PRO damaged MSSQL7

I found one TechNet article that said ZoneAlarm could corrupt the TCP/IP stack. It made me think that maybe all you have is a messed up protocol problem.
So, right-click on Network Neighborhood, and Remove all Dial-Up Adaptors, all NIC Adaptors (network cards), and the TCP/IP protocol. Please record your IP settings on the adaptors before you delete them.
Reboot.
Reinstall TCP/IP.
Reboot (just to be safe)
Install the NIC/Dial-Up adaptors and configure them to the way they were.
Reboot (this IS a Microsoft product, remember!)
Start up your SQL server and try to connect.

Hope this helps.
Oh, one last thing: any error listed in Event Viewer?

I thank you BOTH, it DID corrupt the entire TCP/IP stack, but ALSO, the registry entries I had completely forgot about removing for zone alarm! I was so busy playing with the SQL registry entries that it completely slipped my mind. Again Thanks
