That wasn't too bad but now you've removed the confusion factor. Now not to seem ungrateful or anything but I'm about to beat that dead horse again. Before you guys make any other improvements
how about giving us a spell checker. That would be so nice, I would even have a few drinks in your honour.

Spell-check is on the list...

by Jay Garmon Contributor In reply to Hey they're back, the mis ...

Just don't come cryin' when it takes you ten minutes to write a post because the spell-check keeps flagging your broken English!

Seriously, we want this as bad as you do. It's really hard to promote our community posts when it looks like they've been scrawled on our pages by ill-educated teenagers. Present company excepted of course.

I saw,

in a article about web design somewhere online [ not on a CNET site at all, and I didn't bookmark it ]
that one of the common errors in the TR articles, and blogs the ? showing up all over the place.
it's caused by the MS "smart quotes" features in Word etc. seems that the MS charset has broken from iso8895-1 compatability and put the smart quote characters into space not recognised as containing them, so it tosses the ? instead of the quotes intended to be there.

The fix, is for those reviewing Articles, to TURN OFF the smart quotes before publishing them to HTML.

Oh dear Jay.....

by gadgetgirl In reply to Spell-check is on the lis ...

I hope it's going to be one that those of us outside the US can turn off.....

otherwise it WILL take me 10 minutes to post, because of the use of "American English" spelling....

(and how's that for an oxymoron - American English - sheesh!)

Oh - and how will this work for those TR peeps who use translation programs to post here?

(Hey, Jay, I'm not having a bad day and just picking on you.....just looking for the potholes in the road you may fall in to. Call it a knock on effect from evidence collection over the last 2 flamin' weeks!)
