Hi I have

By zlitocook ·
Been away from red hat for 2 years and just received a DELL PowerEdge 2200 with Linux installed. It is a 97 version I can get the full version if needed. I did not get the login with it, I need to get all the info from the server in order to reinstall. Is there a way to do this with out the admin login? If so how and where?
thanks

you should be able to boot your system if you have a lilo prompt with

linux single

to go into single user mode which by default gives you ROOT access.. there you can change passwords and reboot and login normally.

if not.. you should be able to boot from a redhat cdrom ... go into the rescue option.. and then mount your old system drive and again... change root password and then you can get in to the system after a reboot..

once you've reset the root user's password, you have complete control over the system and can look at, work with, and do, anything to get the information you wanted.

ie.. /proc/cpuinfo /proc/pci /etc/*.conf ... etc etc etc..
