Hibernate or lack there of

By Aaron_Wurthmann ·
Check this out, as most of you know my whole environment here is Windows 2000, half of the laptop users are having issues "resuming" after hibernate. Funny thing is that all of my users are "power users" on their boxes, but only half of them are "local admins" and that half doesn't have any problems coming out of hibernate.

hmmm.... is this a local security policy issue, I can't find anything from MS that says that users have to be "local admins", and yet this strange phenomenon continues. Anyone? Anyone??

Background on network enviroment:
all win2k all the time

I forgot to mention the hardware specs incase anyone thinks that might be an issue. 90% of the laptops are Dell Latitudes (LS, CPX, CSX) and 10% are Sony Vaios. (I hate Sony Vaios). All of the Dells came with Win2k.

Windows2K seems to have various levels of power modes...

Here is what I would try first:

Go into the control panel and disable the sleep mode on the hard drive.

I would also check for updates on the BIOS from Dell and Sony as sometimes thisis the reason they do not resume.

Check the BIOS setup and see what the power management is for the machines.

Go back to Windows and make sure that the power is setup to match the BIOS.

Did all of that, nothing came of it.

Remember the "local admin" users work just fine, the only thing differnet is that they are local admins. The power users can change power settings themselves (except hibernate of course) but they can't resume from hibernate.

Looks like I have to either some reg or some security policy hacking.
