Windows

I hope this helps in a Microsoft OS. Mark helpful if this was helpful so others may benefit from it

To see hidden files in XP:
1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.

2. Click the View tab.

3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.

Note: To access Windows Explorer, click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.

Follow these steps in Windows Vista to view hidden folders:

1. Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.

2. Click the View tab.

3. Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK.

Post back for more help and "mark helpful" so others may benefit if this was helpful to you.

Incomplete Steeps for Explorer in XP here

by OH Smeg In reply to Windows

You need to click on Start then All Programs then Accessories and in the next drop down Menu Window Explorer.

Windows Explorer is not placed in the All Programs by default on all M$ Branded Installs as apposed to some System Makers recovery Disc's which do place Windows Explorer in the All Programs Menu.

I found all of this information on the Microsoft web site!!! So tell Microsoft that, I just copied and pasted it.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/hiddenfiles.mspx

And that is your proof of XP. I don't think it said that in the Vista Portion.

You might be looking for OTHER hidden files ...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to hidden files & folders

Like 'System Files' - which also require to be unhidden.

So even if you have put a bullet point in the right place to 'Show hidden files and folders' BUT still can't find what you're looking for ~ try UNticking the entry slightly further down for 'Hide protected system files (Recommended)'

You might be able to find what you're looking for now.

User Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL]
Value Name: CheckedValue
