hmmm this

By Jaqui ·
is something that a lot of community sites have implemented:

Welcome Jaqui , Sunday, July 17, 2005 6:25 CST (GMT-6), 1858 surfers currently online

the members currently online.
quite a few also include the breakdown as to members and guests.

just an idea to look at.

Next you'll want on line chat

Hey. I still haven't got my pointer to the current post in a discussion thread. You just keep quiet. :-)

what do you

mean no pointer?
there is a pointer.. actually 2 of them.

the post number of thread length.
and the current pst is greyed out in the listing.

Oh yeah.

You're right by golly. Why didn't I notice that?

I already posted elsewhere that I'd be satisfied if the battleship grey color of the current post were changed to something more noticeable, like Day Glo Orange. That's all that I really want. How hard can that be?

CurrentPostTitleColor=FFAA00 or what-the-****-ever.

The post number is no help to me at all when there are more than seven posts. I'm hoping that I'll be able to count all the way up to ten by the end of the year. :-)

You already know how to get changes done

by jdclyde In reply to Oh yeah.

have Oz ask to have it done! B-)

Actually, we're working on something better

by Jay Garmon Contributor In reply to Oh yeah.

We're trying to finagle a fancy anchor tag and dynamic layout so that the post you're reading appears in the correct position in the thread tree, and the page autoscrolls to that position. It's pretty complicated, but we are working on it.

Something to find your place in long discussions would be a big help. :-)

I just hope it's not some god forsaken Java or JavaScript #*&@$.

We don't need no steenkeeng Java ( or JavaScript ).

and what's wrong with chat?

silly thing

by Jaqui In reply to and what's wrong with cha ...

about that r/t chat script, no-one ever uses it on that site.

the busy forum you can read thread, reply to it and have 20 other posts in the same thread between the last one you read and your reply.
( thier script has a few nice touches, but the sute design cannot actually handle the traffic loads they get.

( see my posting in site design:

it has more info about the site )

As jck well knows, I get confused enough with the time difference between you guys spreadeagled(!) all over the US, and BST over here! I'm thinking of making myself a spreadsheet with the "regulars" names on and column 2 will be UK time, and column 3, their time.....ok, I know, but it's just one of those things that totally befuddles my (tired and waterlogged) brain.

Oh, now there's an idea.....what about putting the local times of the posting on the post itself? That would really be a big help!

And I still say no to r/t chat - I'd have to stay up all flippin' nite to get to the end of a decent/interesting conversation, and I admit I need my beauty sleep!!!
