Ho do you fix a deleted users name in NT

By pfede ·
It seems one of our junior techs deleted a user from the network, then he later added that user. Now when we try to give that person certain "rights", like administrative rights to load a program in his name, it wont! Is there a way around this? Cansomeone please help?

You didn't supply enough info - what are you trying to give him administrative rights to? I am going to guess that maybe you are trying to give him administrative rights to an NT workstation that is connected to the NT network. What is probably happening is that the user was also added locally to the NT workstation, but now (because the user's domain user ID was deleted and then added back again) the SID that the user has on the local workstation is not the same as the SID that he/she has forthe domain. This could cause conflicts. If this is the case, remove the local user ID on the workstation and then give his domain user ID administrative rights to his workstation. This should solve your problem.

The problem is the recreated user account has a different SID (security ID). NT creates a unique one for every account you create, EVEN when it is of the same name as a previously deleted accout.

The fix? Reassign directory and file permissions for that user, as well as deleting and readding his name as administrator of any NT machines he was
previously administrator of.

The best and easiest want to 'restore' the user account is to copy the account of a similar user with same rights (with NT group memberships and all) and rename it.
