Holydays come :-)

By 3xp3rt ·
It?s summer, and that?s mean Holydays. So I ask you guys what?s your plans are?
I would like to go in trips, I like mountains, but I like also the beach so I?m not sure where to go in this summer. Here are some rules for holyday:

1. Never take the phone with me

2. Don?t talk about my holyday plans at work (location, addresses)

3. I go in a place where can?t find any computer

??. And you?

Am I supposed to get a Holiday?

by jdmercha In reply to Holydays come :-)

And why would I want to get away from my computer?

It's enough

by 3xp3rt In reply to Am I supposed to get a Ho ...

I work 10-12 hours daily with computers, most of time even Saturday so I need a brake once in a year.

uh you mean...

I don't know if you are US or not, but the calendar holidays aren't enough? Like July 4, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Years Day????? That is more than a break once a year....

You mean they let you get away without having to do upgrades?

What kind of a company do you work for?

We work 9/80 and are oncall... Add it up and 2500-3000 hours is the norm... When we all get sick we get help. Then when we die, they replace us...

I am not production or operations

by j.lupo In reply to You mean they let you get ...

so I work the normal shifts. ;-) But I do have an oncall pager and yes I have worked holidays but the pager rotates. That is only for when our stuff goes into production though. Once it is in and "working" we are done and hand off to customer support/operations/etc.

Who's holyday?

by 3xp3rt In reply to uh you mean...

I?m not US, but our holydays calendar has the same number of days. But in my work (system administrator) is a lot of work what I do in this days (server, network and telecomunication service and maitanance).

ahhh, ok

by j.lupo In reply to Who's holyday?

I was trying to be somewhat funny, but yest that is true in the network/telecom/etc area you folks don't get any respect, rest, or understanding. The rest of us just expect you to make the magic happen and our systems work so we can code our fingers to the bone.

They should give you the holidays though.

Why, in the whole wide world, would you want to be away from your phone and computer?

Possible Destinations

I think that I'll be going to Morrowind this year, or perhaps Middle Earth.

Regarding #2

by onbliss In reply to Holydays come :-)

Is it just that you do not like to talk about your personal vacation plans at work, or are you worried of something else (since you are not taking the phone, they possibly can not contact)?

A small part of the joy is talking about the vacation with others [you actually started talking about it :-)]

I have been thinking of Montreal, Vancouver or Iceland. Iceland seems to be a good location.
