    Hotmail account lock out

    Locked

    by plantogo2000 ·

The end of April the server I had used for my hotmail accounts was shut off without an explantion. Efforts to contact hotmail (outlook express) have been to no avail. Money spent for extra storage to expand email capacity are without access.
How can they do this? Who did this? Why was this done? Why can’t I receive a response?
My hotmail accounts: runtogo@hotmail.com and plantog@hotmail.com have been unusable. My new email account is plantogo2000@yahoo.com

I am offering 7000 techrepublicpoints, not for partial answers but a solution, i.e. emails usable again.

Can you explain this question. What do you mean that the server you used for hotmail accounts?
Do you own the hotmail.com domain?
It has been shut off, what do you mean by that? Do you mean that you can’t access your hotmail account?
What does the fact that you where using an OS that is defined as a Server have to do with the fact that you can’t access your hotmail account?

I have had the two hotamil accounts (plantogo and runtogo) for over three years. I cannot access my hotmail accounts. I have filed requests and have trouble tickets from hotmail (11583954 and 111639814). There has been no response. Getting additional trouble tickets is not the answer. With the first trouble ticket “Louie” of hotmail said I would be contacted. There has been no response and I have paid for additional memory which is not able to be activated. With this computer to computer world there is no real person I can talk to.

I guess i know wht u r saying! I have had similar problems since past two weeks! I have my hotmail configured on OutlookExpress, whenever I am connected to net the Send-Receive always fails!! Error says the ‘Hotmail’Server:’http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp’ no longer exists!
After a while i found that I Send/Receive multiple times, after failing for a few times, the mails do start getting sent & recd.!! Thats surprising! In my case, though I still dont have the final solution, I am able to send/receive mails now, but with a few attempts of send/receive.
Tried looking at Microsoft KnowledgeBase(search for Error Number: 0x800CCC3F), they say tht this could be either a Firewall issue on a Proxy or on your ISP!!
Let us know if this helps!

I ran into a similar problem not too long ago – it turns out that my ISP did not have the correct DNS mapping to the pop server address. In outlook, try replacing pop3.email.msn.com with 65.54.241.130. That is the current IP as of 5/15/03.

A serious security flaw in Microsoft’s Passport service put customers’ accounts, including their personal information password and credit card numbers, at risk of being hijacked.

The flaw, in Passport’s password recovery mechanism, allowed an attacker to change the password on any account to which the user name is known. The flaw was disclosed late Wednesday night on the security mailing list Full Disclosure.

However, if you have had problems logging into your Hotmail account, or another Passport service, and you had to get a new password or open a new account, there is a chance that you were a victim, without ever knowing.

A Hotmail account can be cancelled if it’s used in such a way that’s prohibited by Hotmail agreements. For example, Hotmail is considered a personal account, and using it for certain business activities is prohibited. Another prohibited activity is using it for sending spam. There are other probibited uses as well, but you’d have to read the agreement for an explanation on all of them. If your accounts were reported or detected as engaging in such activity, the accounts could be cancelled without warning or explaination. If you have an issue, you might try calling MSN at (1)(650)964-7200.

By the way, a couple of more thoughts. Included in the prohibited activity is advertizing, promoting, and so on.

So I would suggest one of the two things have happend.

        1. You are (were) engaging in some of the prohibited activities, MSN foundout about it, and the cancelled the accounts.

        2. Someone else hijacked your MSN accounts, THEY were engaging in some of the prohibited activities, MSN found out about it, and the cancelled the accounts.

If you were doing these things, then…..well, there ya’ go.

If you were not doing these things, then perhaps if you approached MSN (via the number I provided) and asked if that’s what happened, you may get somewhere.

Two weeks ago I learned that my participation in a political chat room (under Yahoo’s chat room banner) called “Chico Left” took exception to my political position on an issue and cut and paste a number of different comments together and convinced abuse.yahoo.com that my comments were hateful. On the basis of their comments my email addresses at hotmail were negated.

MSN , Hotmail, and Yahoo have been unhelpful and will not respond.

Have you lost business as a result of their actions? Didthey sign an agreement stating that they were responsible for your hotmail account being available? I highly doubt it.

Hotmail is FREE, they have the right to cancel your account at ANYTIME without prior notice or your consent. They do’t need ANY reason, they could just kill it on a whim if they were having a bad day or simply didn’t like your hair color.
You have NO legal recouse so I hope you don’t mind pissing away a bunch of money on legal fees, before you do, you might want to think about it, who is gonna have the better lawyer, you or MSN?
In fact you might wnat to think about it for a loooooong time, before mortgaging your home to hire a half decent lawyer who still would probably refuse to defend such a weak case.
Good luck, next time you run your own server, consider running your own domain and PO.

Au Contraire. To cancel hotmail on the opinion that the communication was hateful because the person receiving an email was upset by the contyradiction is denying freedom of speech. As you know freedom of speech is guaranteed.

Another uspect after further investigation shows that the NYTimes who was sent a note to the editor may be involved. When the Iraqui War was imminent their position was pro Hussein and comments pointing this out were considered hate. Yet the biggest loser of the Iraqui War is determined to be the NYTimes.
The point is that liberals (sorry if you are one) only want ot hear their own mantra and party line and any contractiroy comment or idea is hate.

In reply to your comments to answer number 8, you are a bit mistaken about your “freedom of speech” assumptions. The “guarantee” is that the United States government shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech. It doesn’t say or imply anythingabout Microsoft or Yahoo, or anyone else making their own rules. A business does indeed have every right to do it. If you think otherwise, just go into a lobby of a busy building or place of business, start preaching about this or that, insulting orotherwise offending or bothering patrons, and see how fast you get thrown out on your ear. Your “freedom of speech” was just squelched – and rightfully so.

Guess I was wrong about MS not supporting Hotmail with Outlook Express anymore. Here’s two solutions for you to try (but you’ll probably want to check http://www.hotmail.com to make sure your accounts are still active).

      SYMPTOMS
Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server.
      Account: ‘Hotmail’
      Server: ‘http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp’
      Protocol: HTTPMail
Server Response: ‘End tag ‘D:response’ does not match the start tag ‘D:prop’.
      Port: 0
      Secure(SSL): No
      Error Number: 0xC00CE56D
      CAUSE
This behavior can occur because Internet Explorer manages cookies on a site-by-site basis.
      RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, modify Internet Explorer’s Privacy settings to include Hotmail.com in the list of domains that always allow cookies. Follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Privacy tab, and then click Edit.
In the Address or Web site box, type http://www.hotmail.com, and then click Allow.
      Click OK.

      SYMPTOMS
Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: ‘Hotmail’, Server: ‘http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp’, Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: ‘Proxy Error (Softwarecaused connection to abort)’, Port:0, Secure (SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC3F
      CAUSE
This issue can occur if the MSN, The Microsoft Network redirect process is not working.
      RESOLUTION
      To resolve this issue:
In Outlook Express, click Accounts on the Tools menu.
Click the Mail tab, click the Hotmail account, and then click Properties.
Click the Server tab, and then change the HTTP Server URL to the following Web address:
      http://oe.hotmail.com/secure/hmdata

Click Apply, and then click OK.

      HTH,

      Hotmail troubles
Also, as of Thursday, Microsoft reported on its support site that some Mac users attempting to send or retrieve mail from an MSN Hotmail account or to configure a new account may find that their Hotmail folders have disappeared or are not displayed. In offering a workaround, the company said that the behavior stems from a security update to Hotmail servers that disabled client programs’ ability to access or send mail.

A spokesperson for Microsoft’s Macintosh Business Unit said that a fix was in the works and that the problem affected no other e-mail clients.

As the browser lockout entered its second day, accusations and counteraccusations of software incompatibilities and hardball exclusionary tactics began to fly.

Microsoft on Thursday contended that the upgraded MSN site uses World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards and that browsers that don’t conform to the standards are being blocked out.

“We supported the latest W3C standards when developing the content and services delivered from MSN,” Bob Visse, the director of MSN marketing, said in an e-mail Friday. He added that Microsoft wants users to visit the Web site “regardless of the browser they choose.”

But Visse recommended that for the best experience with MSN, customers should use a browser that tightly adheres to the W3C standard.

“If customers choose to use a browser that does not tightly support W3C standards, then they may encounter a less then optimal experience on MSN,” he said.

On Thursday, he had said that the company expected to have MSN.com fully accessible to the browsers later in the day

Hate? No, not at all. But there’s a difference between “not agreeing” with someone and pointing out where someone is mistaken. And in this case, you were mistaken – whether you have the ability to admit it ornot. But not to worry. The “freedom of speech” mantra is one of the most misunderstood and misused phrases in America. I pointed out where and how you were mistaken, but you obviously chose to ignore it. You were also mistaken when you apparently used your hotmail account in a way that was in violation of their policies. If your comment to answer number 7 is even remotely accurate, then hotmail may have been justified in canceling your account. Why don’t you just take responsibility for a personal mistake and move on? And you say you’re considering Legal action? Get real, grow up, and move on.

      1. Read Hotmail’s (or any other e-mail or ISP) service agreement.
There are a number of situations where they can, at their SOLE discretion cancel your account.

Many of these agreements allow NO means of recovery of fees paid.

On a realistic basis, you will be wasting ANY money you give to a lawyer for this matter.

As far as free speech goes, there are MANY court approved restrictions on speech in the US.

If you start speaking your mind in most shopping malls, the security guards WILL escort you off of the property.

Nor, can you wrongly slander an individual.

The best you can expect to get out of all this is an explanation of why Hotmail canceled your access.

From the sounds of your comments, I suspect that this problem will come up again for you with another service. I have noticed that the people who scream the most about “free speech” are the very people who abuse their privilege.

1 other piece of advice for the future:
Don’t store ANY critical informationon the web without a backup on your local PC.

      Chas

*Have your – egad, barf! – your cookies gotten stale or are they being up-chucked?*AT last you’ve gotten so many cookies that the access crashes due to the weight of them?

*”THEY” got new hardware and it still don’t recognize you.

*”THEY” got new and improved cookies and “YOU” don’t have room for them ‘cuz your hardware is full of old unimproved cookies that “YOU” prefer.

*You need to re-establish your routing and path work????? not likely!

*Did you know that Microsoft made some kind of changes and it affected the way everything works; also I think they put in a new server system and all new things that are hardware that programmers put in don’t do well at first – Job security.

A political group called chicoleft@yahoo.com accused me of hate email and had my accounts shut down. There was no review, just shut down. Evidently the determination is done by yahoo abuse with emails altered by anyone and sent to the abuse address.

      Hello,
This is exactly what happened to my husband about a year ago with hotmail! Whatever they said to do was no help to him. He could not get in on his computer at all!
We are lucky to have two computers at home. He had windows 98 S.E. and I had windows 98.
Since he could not get into his email on his computer I tried it on mine. For some Stupid reason I could get his email up and running on mine But not his computer. That was after a month of him not getting into his email. Is there anyway you could try another computer to get in your email? Then after that I tried his email account on his computer and I got into it.That was after being locked out for over three months. I do not remember how long he could not get in on his computer. Maybe from a friend’s or family’s computer.
(I do not want your points if this is any help for you.)
