How are things out there?

By max98037 ·
I'm just about to graduate with my assoc in Network Tech. I have been doing tech support for my school for a year and have my CCNA, Net+, and MCP in 2000 server. I would like to hear from you guys out in the real world on what I should expect. I'm alittle scared of what I'll soon be encountering. Is it still really gloomy out there for entry level guys like myself?

entry level

by ghstinshll In reply to How are things out there?

There are always entry level positions out there, but you'll probably have to be willing to re-locate a couple hours away if you want to find something fast. Otherwise, keep sitting and looking locally, but that's where the majority of the gloom about the market lies, in people not being able/willing to re-locate.

I believe that the job situation is worse than you think. Have you tried to find another job? I have a master's degree in computer science, 20 years of experience, and I have been out of work for over a year since I got laid off. I am willing torelocate to almost anywhere in the U.S. I am willing to work for anything over 30k (I was making 90k+ before.) I am willing to take an entry level job and work my way back up. So far no takers. The software/IT market is dismal right now.

Send me your resume

by ghstinshll In reply to Re: Entry Level

If you send me your resume and:

*it's worth it's weight
*you're a good writer/interviewer
*have a good personality that employers want

I'll send you at least one job per week that you could work for 30k+ nearly anywhere I search.

The jobs are out there. Are you perhaps over-educated and under-certified for some of these positions? Do your skills need updating? These are just thoughts that could come up...
