Optimize Windows 11 for maximum performance on older hardware
Follow these steps for an effective boost:
1. Adjust System Settings
Disable Visual Effects: Open the System Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings, and select “Adjust for best performance.” This will turn off unnecessary animations and visual effects.
Enable High-Performance Power Plan: Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery, and choose the “High Performance” power plan to ensure your system prioritizes performance over energy saving.
2. Free Up Disk Space
Use Storage Sense: Activate Storage Sense in Settings > System > Storage to automatically remove temporary and unnecessary files.
Uninstall Bloatware: Remove pre-installed apps and software you don’t use through Settings > Apps.
3. Manage Startup Programs
Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) > Startup tab, and disable non-essential programs that run at startup.
4. Update Drivers and System
Ensure all drivers are updated via Windows Update or your hardware manufacturer’s website. Updated drivers can improve compatibility and performance.
5. Optimize Virtual Memory
Increase virtual memory by going to System Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced Tab > Virtual Memory, and manually set the size based on your system’s requirements (1.5 to 3 times your RAM size).

Replace resource-intensive applications with lightweight alternatives. For instance, use Edge or Firefox instead of Chrome for browsing.

IMHO, if a user is trying to upgrade the version from anything older that Windows 10, It would be foolish, waste of time and money to try to upgrade anything older than that in this modern day and age short of rebuilding the computer’s internal components.
