That depends on the programs you were using during the crash (if Windows crashed) or on the program and what you did with it (if the program crashed) . There’s no general help.
What exactly is your problem? -

Let me share a common practice I use with Word and Excel. I turn on that app’s automatic backup and click the save button once in a while. I haven’t lost a work in progress in decades.

Yes, rproffitt is correct.
Let me share my recent experience. About 1 week ago, my computer started getting flaky. First it would turn on but it wouldn’t actually start. I had the system RAM replaced and it worked for about 24 hours before more components started to fail. I hadn’t realized, but I had One Drive active on my older computer and when I bought a new computer and logged into Windows it automatically installed all my applications along with my saved passwords. YMMV.
The moral of the story is that we lose what we don’t back up.

Recovering lost data or files after a software crash can be a challenging task, but there are several methods you can try to restore your data:
Check the Recycle Bin:
Sometimes files might be deleted unintentionally. Check the Recycle Bin (Windows) or Trash (Mac) to see if the lost files are there.Restore from Backup:
If you have a backup system in place (such as Windows Backup, Time Machine on Mac, or a third-party backup service), restore the lost files from your most recent backup.Use File History or Previous Versions:
On Windows, File History or the Previous Versions feature can help you restore older versions of your files. Right-click the file or folder, select “Restore previous versions,” and choose a version to restore.- This reply was modified 5 months, 4 weeks ago by onwork1948.
