How change license key Windows 2003 x64

By aaron ·
Does anyone know how to change the product key on Windows 64bit (2003), I have been using this article for 32bit servers: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328874

However it does not work on 64bit servers, any ideas?

One caveat

by NormH3 In reply to How change license key Wi ...

Not sure if this is your issue, but if you are trying to change the product key, the new key must be the same type licensing that is currently on the server. If the installed OS was from a retail disk, the new product key must be a retail product key. The same would go for an Open License or OEM key.
If the OS was installed using retail software and key and you want to change it to a Open License key, you will have to reinstall the OS over the existing installation and use the proper key at that time. Your apps will not (should not) be affected but you will have to re patch the server.

If this isn't your issue, perhaps this post will help someone else.

Different issue

I don't think this is the issue, as they are both volume licensing keys (the new and the old key) - the issue is the instructions in that article only cater for 32bit, and not 64bit.
