How do I analyze directory-level permiss

By R.Zucker ·
We're beginning a large data/permissions analysis & cleanup project in our existing Win2K environment, so we can implement a full active directory organizational structure.

I haven't found a way to report on the permissions attributed to each directory though, other than manually reviewing & documenting them one at a time.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any tools that would report this data (I can manipulatable the data myself in Excel if necessary).

How do I analyze directory-level permiss

You can use the command line utility cacls. You can dump the results to a text file and then analyze it in Excel. I will warn you, though, that it lists the file permissions for every file and folder as you specify. To get the switches, go to thecommand line, and type:

cacls /?

This will list all the valid switches for the command. Or, you can go the the Windows Help and look in the index for cacls. Hope this helps!
